The Forbes Story
Where others saw crisis, Charles Forbes saw opportunity. In the late 1970’s, Detroit’s historic Theater District was a struggling neighborhood filled with vacant and neglected commercial buildings. In an effort to protect and preserve some of Detroit’s most important architectural treasures, he began purchasing properties, including the Gem Theater, The Elwood, the Colony Club, and the Francis Palms Building.
This early redevelopment helped stabilize the Theater District and would act as the catalyst for a revitalization that has seen the neighborhood become one of the greatest entertainment districts in the country.
